The EcoMom Alliance is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization inspiring and empowering mothers to help reduce the climate crisis and create a sustainable future. In the process, we also help to alleviate the isolation and overextension so common among mothers in contemporary society.

A note from Dr. Riley:

“For most, our first step into motherhood begins at the time we make the conscious choice to pursue conceiving a child. It may seem a subtle shift in our world, with little impact on it at that time, but we have made a choice that will impact the world forever. Pregnancy unfolds, somewhat like a rite of passage, ultimately entering us into a new world with the birth of our child. This world of motherhood becomes the ultimate challenge in balance, not only in our daily life and shuttling kids, but making choices and doing our best to create a healthy and happy foundation for our children.

Our legacy to our children begins well before conception. I have learned a great deal through my own pregnancies and my children. Much comes from seeing not only changes in our health as a society, but also the health challenges we face today as a society. Many of these challenges are rooted in the health of our world and our environments. I feel even more strongly today, than days gone by, about the impact our daily choices have in our long-term health and vitality.

Although my interests in making sustainable choices originated from more of a health standpoint than solely an environmental standpoint, the goals of sustainability and environmental medicine overlap almost completely. After getting to know Kimberly Danek Pinkson, the founder of the EcoMom Alliance, it was only natural for us to join our efforts.

Kimberly’s passion was to educate moms as a vehicle for creating change for a more sustainable future; my passion was educating moms to make better choices in order to create a legacy of health for their families, and our future generations.

As moms, we all want to do what is best for our children, to build them the brightest future possible. The EcoMom Alliance was created to empower moms with the ability to make changes toward a more sustainable future, all while still being a mom. As a collective movement, we can make changes that change the world from our own backyard, even from the sandbox!”
